SUGAR HAIR REMOVAL FAQ
How do I prepare for my appointment?
Very gently exfoliate in the shower prior to your appointment. This will buff off any dead skin and thoroughly remove lotions and oils. Make sure not to apply any lotions, perfumes, or powders.
How long does my hair need to be in order to get sugared?
A minimum of 2 weeks is required for sugaring. However, 4-6 weeks is preferred. Hair growth, at its shortest should be about ¼” long.
What parts of the body can be sugared?
Wherever there’s hair!
Does sugaring hurt?
Hair removal tends to be uncomfortable, but it’s the first appointment that’s the worst. If you’ve been shaving leading up to your appointment, the bulbs at the base of your hair shaft are strong and oversized. Each time we sugar, it breaks down the bulb making it weaker, therefore easier to remove and more comfortable each time.
What’s the difference between waxing and sugaring?
Sugar is made from just sugar, lemon juice and water. There are no chemicals or hidden ingredients like you will find in wax. This means no redness, uncomfortable, raw skin or bumps the day after.
Sugar is applied in the opposite direction of hair growth and flicked off in the same. This ensures the bulb is fully removed at the root of the hair which results in the breakdown of the follicle wall, ultimately resulting in less grow back and eventually none at all.
Sugar is sanitary, you’ll never see us double dip into the pot with anything but a brand new glove. It’s water soluble, so any unwanted sugar can be removed with a wet, warm rag.
Absolutely not. Sugar paste, being all natural is perfect for every skin type. Sugar is applied just above room temperature and only adheres to dead skin, therefore it will not burn you nor remove your live skin cells.
I have sensitive skin, will this be a problem?
How do I care for my skin after hair removal?
Make sure to exfoliate in the shower and invest in aftercare products to avoid ingrown hairs. Exfoliation is very important. Also, do not apply any creams to the area for 24 hours post your appointment.
How long does it last? When should I make my next appointment?
This varies person to person, depending on the couressness of hair. Grow back will usually begin about 2-4 weeks after your treatment and your appointment should be booked out 4-6 from your last.
Can I shave in between treatments?
Please refrain. This will cause the hair to grow back darker and thicker which will also set off your scheduled grow back.
How long before I can resume normal activities (ie. Swimming, sex, working out)?
Immediately after your appointment your skin will be soft to the touch. We still recommend waiting until the next day for any activities that cause you to sweat because your pores will be open and we want to avoid any infection.
How does sugaring work toward permanent hair removal?
It mostly depends on how dense the hair growth is. as long as you stay on a steady 4-6 week schedule with your appointments, you will see permanent hair removal in a time from ranging from 18 months, for people with light hair growth, to 3 years or more, for people with heavier growth.
